Camden County Prosecutor Warren Faulk reported a Pennsylvania man who stole a police car, injuring a patrol officer and initiated a chase that spanned two states, has pleaded guilty.
Blake Bills, M.25, of Macungie, PA, pleaded guilty Thursday to Carjacking and Eluding. He is expected to be sentenced to 17 years of incarceration on the count of Carjacking, and must serve 85 percent of that term before he is eligible for parole. He also is expected to be sentenced to an eight year term of incarceration on the count of Eluding. Those two terms are to be served concurrently.
Bills and Shayna Sykes began a two day spiral of criminal activity and drug use on March 3, 2013, when they fled from a police officer who tried to stop them after observing a drug transaction on 3rd and Erie streets in Camden. The officer was injured when he attempted to pursue the couple’s vehicle and his cruiser rolled over.
On March 5, 2013, the couple was spotted in what turned out to be a stolen car, and then later the same day, the two tried to steal a motorist’s car and finally took a Camden police cruiser as the officer, Sekou Reid-Bey, conducted a car stop on Federal Street in Camden. Bills admitted Thursday he got in the empty cruiser about 9:50 a.m on March 5 and drove directly into Officer Reid-Bay, who is still recovering from his injuries. Bills then drove around the block once and picked up Sykes at Mickle Boulevard and Haddon Avenue. They fled from police east on Admiral Wilson Boulevard into Pennsauken, then back into Camden on the same road. The two crossed the Benjamin Franklin Bridge and were apprehended in Philadelphia after an extensive pursuit.
Bills is scheduled to be sentenced July 3. Sykes case is still pending trial.
