CAMDEN MAN SENTENCED FOR 2013 MURDER – 8/24/16

Camden County Prosecutor Mary Eva Colalillo and Camden County Police Chief Scott Thomson announced a Camden man received a sentence of 30 years in prison for the murder of Rhonda Scott, 38, of Camden.

Charles Sheppard, 24 at the time of the murder, was accused of stabbing Miss Scott over 30 times then setting her on fire at a residence in the 1700 block of Tioga Street in Camden on February 8, 2013. He was scheduled to be tried on April 12, 2016 but plead guilty to one count murder in a plea agreement prior to the trial.

Sheppard later filed a motion to get out of the plea agreement. His motion was denied after Assistant Camden County Prosecutor Lauren Pratter presented the State’s argument.

The sentence was imposed on Wednesday, August 24, 2016 by Superior Court Judge Kathleen Delaney in accordance with the negotiated plea agreement. Sheppard must serve 30 years in New Jersey State Prison before he is eligible for parole.

Released Wednesday, September 7, 2016.
