A city man pleaded guilty on Monday (6/20/16) to four counts of attempted murder for shooting at four Camden County police officers in April 2014.
James Dickerson, 28, of Camden will be concurrently sentenced to 20 years in state prison on each count. Under the terms of the plea, he will be required to serve at least 85 percent or 17 years of his sentence before he is eligible for parole.
Following an independent investigation conducted by the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office, Prosecutor Mary Eva Colalillo concluded the use of deadly force by the police officers was legally justified. No criminal charges were filed against the officers.
The incident occurred on April 25th, 2014, when four Camden County police officers responded to 7th and Sycamore streets in Camden at 9:52 p.m. after receiving a report of a man with a gun in Chestnut Court. Upon their arrival, the officers were confronted by Dickerson, who fired several shots at the officers. The four officers returned fire, striking Dickerson once in the leg.
Dickerson is scheduled to be sentenced on July 29th before Superior Court Judge Gwendolyn Blue.
Released Tuesday, June 21, 2016
