Camden County Prosecutor Mary Eva Colalillo announced a Lindenwold man pleaded guilty today to reckless manslaughter in a drug-induced death case.
Kevin Croxton, 26, faces a recommended sentence of 7 ½ years in state prison for selling heroin to another man who later died of a drug overdose. In addition to the reckless manslaughter charge, he pleaded guilty to possession of a controlled dangerous substance with intent to distribute within 1,000 feet of school property.
The victim, 29-year-old Laurel Springs man, was found dead at his residence on April 6, 2014. The cause of his death was determined to be from the adverse effects of drugs.
During the course of the investigation, Croxton was identified through cell phone records and other evidence as the person who sold the heroin to the victim. Investigators determined the drug deal happened in Lindenwold mere hours before the victim’s death. He was charged in January with strict liability for a drug-induced death.
Croxton is scheduled to be sentenced on September 18 before Superior Court Judge Michele Fox. Under the No Early Release Act, he will be required to serve at least 85 percent of his prison sentence before he is eligible for parole.
The case was handled by the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit.
Released Monday, August 10, 2015.
