Camden County Prosecutor Warren W. Faulk reported two defendants in a 2013 Gloucester Township homicide were sentenced today, and a third pleaded guilty.
Superior Court Judge Gwendolyn Blue sentenced Jevon Coleman Robinson, M/17, of Edgewater Park, to a term of 23 years incarceration in a New Jersey state prison on a count of Aggravated Manslaughter, and must serve 85 percent of that sentence before he is eligible for parole. He also was sentenced to a concurrent term of 10 years incarceration on a count of Aggravated Assault.
Isaac Mimes, M/18, of Willingboro, was sentenced to 12 years incarceration on a count of Armed Robbery. He must serve 85 percent of that term before he is eligible for parole.
Both men pleaded guilty in March, when they admitted that they planned to obtain marijuana from Lamar Ortiz, a 20-year-old resident of the Autumn Ridge Apartments, on July 15, 2013. They had no intention, however, of paying for it. They admitted to contacting a friend who knew Ortiz and drove with him and a fourth man, Joshua Texidor, M/20, of Westampton, to Ortiz’s apartment. Mimes said in his plea he was aware Coleman Robinson, who was driving, carried a concealed handgun.
When they arrived Ortiz came to the vehicle’s passenger window and talked with the group. They asked him to show them the marijuana they wanted to buy and he refused. When they insisted he walked away from the car. Coleman Robinson then drew his gun and pointed it at Ortiz.
Coleman Robinson said during the hearing the friend who knew Ortiz, who was sitting in the back seat, tried to grab the gun. Coleman Robinson admitted to hitting him in the head with the gun repeatedly. He admitted that he then shot Ortiz, killing him.
Texidor, the final defendant in the case, pleaded guilty today to Aggravated Manslaughter and Aggravated Assault. He is expected to be sentenced to a term of 20 years incarceration on the Aggravated Manslaughter charge and five years incarceration on the Aggravated Assault charge.
Texidor’s sentencing date has not been set but is likely to be held in August.
