Camden County Prosecutor Mary Eva Colalillo and Camden County Police Chief Scott Thomson reported a Camden woman admitted in court Monday to stabbing a New Jersey Division of Child Protection and Permanency employee at an office building in the city last year.
Taisha Edwards, F/31, pleaded guilty to first-degree Criminal Attempted Murder before Superior Court Judge Edward J. McBride, Jr.
In accepting the plea, Edwards admitted she stabbed a female DCPP case worker multiple times with a knife November 17, 2014. The attack happened shortly after 1 p.m. in a hallway outside the DCPP office on the 100 block of Haddon Avenue in Camden. Edwards was a client of DCPP.
Several of the victim’s co-workers witnessed the attack and were able to overpower and detain Edwards until Camden County Police arrived and took her into custody.
The victim was taken to Cooper University Hospital for treatment. She was present in court with a number of family members and friends for Edwards’ plea.
Under the terms of the plea, Edwards faces a sentence of 13 years in state prison. She will be required to serve at least 85 percent of her prison sentence before she is eligible for parole. She will also be required to serve five years of parole supervision upon her release and have no contact with the victim or the victim’s family, friends and acquaintances.
Edwards is scheduled to be sentenced at 1:30 p.m. on April 10.
Released Monday, March 9, 2015.
